Concentric Fight Against the Epidemic丨The "Tao Li Forum" Lecture Series of the School of Finance Commences

On the afternoon of January 26, 2022, the first phase of the "Tao Li Forum" series of lectures of the School of Finance was successfully held. Professor Zhang Lianzeng, head of the Department of Actuarial Science and Ph.D. supervisor of the School of Finance of Nankai University, gave the lecture with the title of "Learning R". He introduced the key points of R software and the basic methods of data processing and analysis for the students. Liu Wei, the deputy dean of the college, Ji Fang, the deputy secretary of the party committee and deputy dean, together with more than 200 teachers and students gathered in the cloud to participate in this lecture.

Liu Wei introduced to the students the background and original intention of opening a series of "Tao Li Forum" online lectures for undergraduates in collaboration with the College's Undergraduate Teaching Office and the College Youth League Committee. The goal is to guide students lay a solid theoretical and academic foundation for professional theoretical knowledge and promote the exchange between teachers and students. This provides a good online learning platform for students during the winter vacation and enriches the vacation life of financial students with innovative teaching forms.

Ji Fang introduced various wonderful lectures and activities organized by the college during the epidemic since January 8. She called on teachers and students to make full use of the various resources provided by the college, actively participate in exchanges and interactions, and spend a colorful winter vacation.

After the enthusiastic introduction by the two teachers, Professor Zhang Lianzeng explained R mainly with the introduction and rambling as the main ideas.

In the introduction part, Professor Zhang Lianzeng explained the reasons for the popularity of R in detail from the origin of R, focusing on the characteristics of R as open source, free, rich in resources, and powerful. At the same time, starting from different usage requirements, he recommended R related books to the students for the introduction and improvement of R. He also proposed book-based and web-based learning methods.

In the rambling part, Professor Zhang focused on cases and analyzed the operation logic of R, which deepened the students' understanding of the software. He listed examples close to classroom teaching such as "random roll call", "probability function" and "matrix operation", With the display of the code part, he presented the basic application of R. At the same time, Zhang Lianzeng explained in detail the drawing of R, LaTex, R and other advanced topics. He carefully analyzed the significance of the code, and expanded the application of R. Students said that they have benefited a lot. In the enthusiastic comments and interaction, the first phase of the "Tao Li Forum" was successfully concluded.

"Tao Li Forum" is a series of lectures launched by the Undergraduate Teaching Office of the School of Finance and the Student Extracurricular Activities Guidance Center of the Youth League Committee of the School for undergraduates. The event focuses on professional theoretical study and industry practice, academic guidance, and alumni career development sharing, etc. It effectively combines the needs of undergraduates' learning and practice to comprehensively help students grow and develop.
