Recently, the Tianjin Municipal Education Committee announced the list of outstanding employment and entrepreneurship courses for 2023 in Tianjin universities. After expert review, a total of 5 courses each were selected as outstanding employment and entrepreneurship courses. Our university had 2 courses selected, placing us at the forefront among all universities in the city. Among them, the course “Career Development and Employment Guidance for College Students,” taught by Ms. Wang Xiaojuan from our college, was honored as Tianjin’s Outstanding Employment Course for 2023.

Ms. Wang Xiaojuan, the course instructor, serves as the Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee of our college and as a graduate counselor. She holds certifications as a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF), National Level II Psychological Counselor, Outstanding Innovation and Entrepreneurship Instructor in Tianjin, and Outstanding Counselor in Tianjin. The teaching team of the “Career Development and Employment Guidance for College Students” course addresses common student concerns such as career anxiety, avoidance of proactive career planning,” “self-evaluation biases,” and “idealized career expectations” from the perspectives of knowledge, skills, and values. The course aims to awaken students’ career awareness, stimulate curiosity about their careers, boost confidence, and enhance autonomy in career planning. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical stages of student employment, guiding students’ growth from a perspective of learning and career development. It links theoretical concepts with real-world applications, uses case studies to help students solve practical challenges in their lives, studies, and careers, and provides effective and practical career development knowledge and skills.

The course also incorporates Nankai University’s distinctive feature of “knowing China and serving China,” encouraging students to contribute to and build Tianjin while fostering a love for and commitment to the city. Each class session includes interactive group counseling experiences and post-class assignments that challenge students to apply their learning. Through three comprehensive stages— “awareness awakening,” “method acquisition,” and “action implementation”—the course aims to enhance students’ career adaptability. The interactive nature of teaching and high student satisfaction make the course engaging, practical, and substantial.

It is noted that the selection of Tianjin’s outstanding employment and entrepreneurship courses aims to cultivate and construct a group of exemplary courses, showcasing achievements in employment and entrepreneurship guidance at universities. This initiative aims to continuously improve the quality of course instruction and the level of employment and entrepreneurship services at universities, thereby promoting high-quality and fully-employed graduates. Our college has consistently prioritized the development of employment and entrepreneurship courses, rooted in our educational philosophy and students’ practical needs. By maximizing the educational role of the classroom, we actively guide students to adopt correct employment concepts, enhance their capabilities in employment and entrepreneurship, improve the quality of graduates’ employment, and effectively enhance the practical outcomes of course and employment guidance.
