In commemoration of the fifth anniversary of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s visit to Nankai University, and to deeply implement and uphold the important spirit of his speech, the School of Finance held a collective study session of the Party Committee’s Theoretical Learning Center Group at the beginning of the new year. The session was attended by members of the school’s Party and administrative leadership, as well as Party Committee members. The meeting revisited the key points of Xi Jinping’s speech during his visit to the university and, in light of the school’s specific circumstances, discussed how to implement the Party Committee’s specific requirements for the School of Finance.

From January 9th to 10th, the school organized the 2024 Annual Work Conference for all faculty members. The conference aimed to deeply comprehend and uphold the “Two Upholds” as the paramount national interest, guided by the goal of building first-class disciplines and fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. It conveyed the university’s relevant work requirements and invited experts from within and outside the university to share reports on undergraduate teaching, graduate education, and scientific research. The conference was chaired by Zhang Yao, the Party Secretary of the School of Finance.

Former Director of the Academic Affairs Office of Nankai University, Shen Yaping, gave a special report titled “Reform of Undergraduate Education and Teaching and the Cultivation and Application of Achievements”. He introduced national policies on undergraduate teaching reform and shared his experience and insights on applying for teaching achievement awards.

Li Yuelin, Director of the Academic Affairs Department, conveyed the spirit of the university’s Undergraduate Education and Teaching Work Conference. She systematically explained the evaluation of undergraduate education and teaching, the upgrade action plan for the undergraduate talent training system, and the admissions work.

Professor Zhang Yongjie from the School of Management and Economics at Tianjin University shared his insights and provided targeted guidance on applying for Natural Science Foundation projects in his report titled “Narrative of the Natural Science Foundation”.

Fan Xiaoyun, Dean of the School of Finance, systematically conveyed the spirit of the Central Financial Work Conference and the Central Economic Work Conference, and reported on the topic selection for social science fund project applications.

Liu Tingzhu, Director of the Office of the National Steering Committee for Professional Degree Graduate Education in Finance, gave a special lecture on “Case Teaching and Case Development for Professional Master’s Degrees in Finance”. He vividly explained the implementation of professional master’s degree teaching in finance through numerous examples.

Li Zeguang, Vice Dean of the School of Finance, presented on “Guidelines for Writing Professional Master’s Degree Theses in Finance”. He analyzed and compared the similarities and differences between academic and professional master’s degree theses in finance, and shared his thoughts on writing professional master’s degree theses.

During the conference, the preliminary round of the Fourth National University Teacher Teaching Innovation Competition was also held, where participating teachers from various fields showcased their teaching innovation achievements.

It is reported that this annual conference aimed to align with the national development direction of higher education, connect with the university’s overall development strategy, and promote the improvement of the school’s teaching and research work, thereby better facilitating the high-quality development of the school’s undertakings.
