On the occasion of the sixth “515 National Investor Protection Awareness Day,” to enhance investor protection and promote sound investment principles on campus, Nankai University’s School of Finance, in collaboration with Tianhong Fund Management Co., Ltd., organized the “Investor Protection Around Us: Safeguarding Rights and Preventing Risks” investor education event. The event featured a keynote lecture by Mr. Xiong Jun, Deputy General Manager and Chief Economist of Tianhong Fund, on “Making a Big Impact in Pension Finance.” It was attended by Ning Hua, Deputy Director of the Investor Protection Department of Tianjin Securities Regulatory Bureau; Tong Jianlin, Leader of Investor Education at Tianhong Fund; Fan Xiaoyun, Dean of the School of Finance; Zhu Minglai, Director of the Institute of Aging and Health Protection; Zhang Qingyuan, a member of the Party Committee; and over 200 students and faculty. The event was hosted by Chen Lu, Vice Dean of the School of Finance, and organized by the Nankai University Rongtong Talent Base Association.

Dean Fan Xiaoyun, in her opening remarks, emphasized the significance of the event, noting that the close cooperation between fund companies, local government, and universities plays a crucial role in advancing financial literacy, protecting investor rights, and nurturing financial talent. With the aging population, pension investment has become increasingly relevant. She encouraged students to gain more professional knowledge from the lecture and become high-quality financial professionals.

Ning Hua highlighted the importance of investor education, stressing that the Tianjin Securities Regulatory Bureau is committed to integrating investor protection into the national education system. He praised the collaborative investor protection activities between Tianhong Fund and Nankai University for their positive impact on enhancing students’ financial literacy and awareness of investor rights.

In his lecture, Xiong Jun explored the topic of pension finance in a detailed yet accessible manner. He explained the significance and distinctions of the three pillars of domestic pensions—social security, enterprise annuities, and personal pensions—sharing data on pension investment return targets and risk characteristics under different return levels. Xiong advocated for a more comprehensive and diversified pension financial system to meet diverse needs, including pension insurance, pension funds, and pension trusts, along with supportive regulatory and service frameworks. He called for greater public education and awareness to prevent financial pitfalls and improve financial literacy.

During the interactive session, students actively asked questions. Xiong Jun provided clear explanations and practical examples of pension finance, addressing students’ doubts and sparking their interest in and deeper understanding of pension finance.

On the event day, the Nankai University Rongtong Talent Base Association, in collaboration with Tianhong Fund’s investor education base, set up booths at the entrances of the Liberal Arts Canteen and the School of Finance. These booths featured activities such as focusing on the investor education base’s public account, photo-taking, interactive games, and receiving giveaways, promoting financial knowledge and fostering in-depth exchanges between students and fund professionals, thereby advancing sound investment principles.
