In commemoration of the 61st anniversary of Learning from Lei Feng, and in line with President Xi Jinping’s important instructions on volunteer service, the School of Finance, in collaboration with various co-construction units, organized a series of “Learning from Lei Feng” themed activities to greatly promote the Lei Feng spirit in the new era.
“Burning with youthful passion, undauntedly forging ahead,” is the declaration made by student volunteers from the School of Finance during the “First Lesson of the New School Year” at Tianjin No. 1 High School, Jinnan School.
To further promote the integrated development of ideological and political education across different levels, the School of Finance partnered with Biyu Garden First Community in Balitai Town, Jinnan District, and participated in classroom activities at Tianjin No. 1 High School, Jinnan School. The volunteers used the popular inspirational movie “Burning Hot” as a starting point and shared their personal experiences from their own studies. They discussed how to set appropriate study goals, manage time efficiently, and break down tasks reasonably. They also provided advice on cultivating good study habits, such as preparing before classes, thinking actively, summarizing promptly, and completing study tasks methodically. The volunteers’ sharing inspired the students to overcome challenges in their studies with relentless effort and to ride the waves of the new semester with full enthusiasm, staying committed to their ideals.
Leveraging their expertise in finance and insurance, student volunteers provided volunteer services at Tianjin Kangning Jinyuan, the largest elderly care community in the country. They carefully prepared a lecture themed “Preventing Elderly Scams, Understanding Financial Planning for Retirement,” where they detailed common types of financial scams, using real-life cases from news reports to vividly illustrate the various fraud methods. They explained the “Four Don’ts” and “Four Do’s” principles of fraud prevention, advising the elderly on how to identify and avoid scams. During the financial planning for retirement session, the volunteers introduced the concept and significance of financial planning for retirement in simple terms, focusing on savings, pensions, retirement insurance, government bonds, financial products, and other common financial management tools and knowledge, helping the elderly better understand financial planning for retirement and master financial management skills.
The volunteers also brought performances including a poetry reading of “Facing the Sea, with Spring Blossoms,” a folk dance titled “Colorful Clouds of the South,” and a guitar performance of “Rice Fragrance.” Amidst the lingering melodies, the volunteers mingled with the elderly, offering handmade lanterns and postcards as tokens of goodwill from Nankai students, wishing the elderly “Long life and health, with each year bringing renewed vitality.”
On March 5, nearly 30 elementary school students from the second community of Biyu Garden, Balitai Town, Jinnan District, visited the Nankai campus for a “Learning Lei Feng Spirit” tour. Members of the Youth Financial Promotion Team from the School of Finance conducted a lively presentation for the students, themed “Learning from Lei Feng, Setting New Trends,” starting with “Lei Feng’s Diary” to introduce Lei Feng’s exemplary deeds and the profound essence of the Lei Feng spirit. They also shared real-life stories from their surroundings to explain how to practice the Lei Feng spirit in the new era.
After the presentation, the volunteers guided the elementary school students to visit the Ningyi Hongdao Study Room of the School of Finance, where they felt the power of knowledge and the heritage of culture. In front of the statue of Premier Zhou Enlai, the volunteers explained the spirit of Zhou Enlai to the students, allowing them to deeply appreciate Premier Zhou’s noble spirit of wholeheartedly serving the people, and further strengthening their determination to learn from Zhou Enlai’s spirit, learn from the Lei Feng spirit, and commit themselves to serving others.
Promoting the Lei Feng spirit and gathering youthful energy! In the future, the School of Finance will continue to expand its volunteer service team, work with co-construction units to create high-quality volunteer service projects, and integrate the Lei Feng spirit into daily life, letting it shine with new brilliance in the new era!
