Recently, the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission announced the results of the 2023 Tianjin Municipal Teaching Teams and the 17th Tianjin Municipal Higher Education Teaching Master Awards (Document No. 2 [2024] from Tianjin Higher Education Office). The International Finance Teaching Team led by Professor Fan Xiaoyun from school of finance was awarded the Tianjin Municipal Teaching Team Honorary Title. The selection and recognition of Tianjin Municipal Teaching Teams is a key construction project under the “Tianjin Higher Education Undergraduate Teaching Quality and Teaching Reform Project,” aiming to enhance the sense of responsibility and mission among teachers and to stimulate and motivate university faculty to engage in frontline teaching with enthusiasm and creativity.
International Finance is a traditionally competitive discipline at Nankai University. Under the leadership of veteran international finance scholars such as Qian Rongkun, Wang Jizu, and Chen Guoqing, the International Finance program was approved as one of the first doctoral degree authorization points in 1984 and was recognized as a national key discipline in 1987. Under the guidance of the senior generation of the International Finance teaching team, the textbook “International Finance,” co-authored by Qian Rongkun, Ma Junlu, and Chen Ping, won the first prize for Outstanding Social Science Textbooks in China in 1997 and the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award in 1998.
The International Finance teaching team has inherited and carried forward this precious legacy, continuously assembling outstanding teaching resources and striving for excellence. Through ongoing efforts, the International Finance course has been developed into a National-Level Excellent Course (2005), a National-Level Excellent Resource Sharing Course (2013), a National-Level First-Class Offline Course (2020), and a National-Level First-Class Online Course (2023).
Since the establishment of the School of Finance, with the rapid growth in teaching tasks, the International Finance teaching team has further expanded and improved, enhancing its capabilities and expertise. The current team is a politically strong and professionally distinguished group, consisting of six teachers: Fan Xiaoyun, Li Zeguang, Wang Bo, Wang Daoping, Xia Tianhe, and Shi Yu. They are core members of Nankai University’s first “Hundred Young Talents Team,” including four national and provincial-level talents, one Tianjin Teaching Master, one recipient of the Tianjin May 1st Labor Medal, one advanced individual in the Tianjin Education System’s “Teaching Pioneer Post,” one Nankai University Talent Professor, and two Nankai University Hundred Young Talents. The team is well-grounded, dedicated to their profession, and has rich teaching experience and enthusiasm. They are core members of the National First-Class Golden Course and the first National Virtual Teaching and Research Office for International Finance Courses. The team’s teaching and reform achievements are significant, forming a teaching assurance mechanism that includes small class teaching, collective teaching and research, unified exams, standardized grading, and regular textbook revision. In the past five years, they have undertaken the Ministry of Education's first “New Liberal Arts” teaching reform project, key teaching reform projects in Tianjin, and more than 10 teaching reform projects at Nankai University. The team members have collectively won 19 national and provincial-level teaching awards. The team adheres to the fundamental principle of moral education, closely integrating value guidance with the high-efficiency dissemination of international finance knowledge and innovation capability training. They maintain a global perspective and a national interest viewpoint, telling the stories of international finance developments, China's financial reform and opening up, and the rise of a major financial power. The “International Finance” textbook has been recognized as one of the first outstanding textbooks for ideological and political education in Tianjin courses, and the International Finance course has been recommended as a model course for ideological and political education in Tianjin. Relying on “renowned teachers, renowned textbooks, and renowned courses,” the team promotes the coordinated development of course construction, teaching team building, and the cultivation of excellent teaching outcomes. The team is highly skilled, continuously pursuing academic progress, and climbing new research heights. They have undertaken nearly 20 national and provincial-level projects, including major Ministry of Education projects, major national social science projects, key national social science projects, and National Natural Science Foundation projects. They have published over 200 academic papers in the field of international finance in authoritative domestic and international journals, authored more than 10 books, and have won two first prizes, six second prizes, and six third prizes for outstanding social science achievements at the national and provincial levels.
