Nankai University School of Finance 2024 International Summer School Successfully Concludes.
To implement the “Nankai University 3.0 Talent Cultivation System,” uphold the educational philosophy of “Integration of Chinese and Foreign Cultures,” cultivate students’ global vision and sense of responsibility, and advance the internationalization of undergraduate and graduate education reforms, the School of Finance successfully held a two-week International Summer School in early July 2024. The summer school, themed “Broadening International Horizons, Leading Financial Frontiers,” offered two advanced English-taught courses, attracting over 100 participants from within and outside the university, including more than 10 enthusiastic high school students.
1. Curriculum Highlights
This International Summer School carefully designed two advanced English-taught courses: “Sustainable Finance and Quantitative Fundamental Investing” and “Empirical Financial Analysis Methods.” Four professors from renowned overseas universities, including Texas A&M University, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Illinois at Chicago, were invited as guest lecturers. They brought cutting-edge academic knowledge and practical case studies, enabling students to gain a deep understanding of the latest research trends and advanced analytical techniques in the field of finance.
In the “Sustainable Finance and Quantitative Fundamental Investing” course, Professors Sumit Agarwal and Ma Lingjie explored two key areas—sustainable finance and quantitative investing—highlighting the vast potential of new investment methods such as ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investing and impact investing.
In the “Empirical Financial Analysis Methods” course, Professors Chen Yong and Qian Wenlan provided in-depth explanations on topics such as investment management and performance evaluation, and applied econometrics. Through case studies, they helped students master the basic methods and techniques of empirical financial research.
2. Looking Ahead
The School of Finance is committed to cultivating high-quality financial talent with a global perspective. In the future, the school will continue to deepen international cooperation and exchange, strengthen ties with industry, and promote the integration of industry, academia, and research. This will contribute to the innovation and development of the financial sector.
