The 6th China Health Economics Forum (CHEF), organized by the China Health Economics Forum Organizing Committee and co-hosted by the School of Finance at Nankai University and the Health Economics and Healthcare Security Research Center of Nankai University, was successfully held at Nankai University on October 28th, 2023. Professor Fan Xiaoyun, Dean of the School of Finance at Nankai University, and Professor Feng Jin, Director of the Public Economics Department at Fudan University's School of Economics and Chang Jiang Scholar from Ministry of Education, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Professor Zhao Yaohui, a Boya Distinguished Professor at Peking University, Chang Jiang Scholar from Ministry of Education, and researcher at the National Development Research Institute, and Professor Zhu Hengpeng, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, gave keynote speeches. More than 200 faculty members and students from universities nationwide attended the conference. The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Zhu Minglai, Director of the Health Economics and Healthcare Security Research Center at Nankai University and Head of the Institute of Pension and Health Security at the School of Finance.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Fan Xiaoyun, Dean of the School of Finance at Nankai University, first extended a warm welcome on behalf of the School of Finance at Nankai University to all the experts, teachers, and students attending the forum. Then, Professor Fan reviewed the development history of NKU Finance, introduced the long-term achievements of the college's health economics and security research team, and emphasized the importance of health economics in interdisciplinary research.

Professor Feng Jin, Director of the Public Economics Department at Fudan University's School of Economics and representative of the initiators of the China Health Economics Forum, delivered a speech. Professor Feng first introduced the research scope and development trajectory of health economics and its importance within the discipline of economics. Based on this, she further pointed out the opportunities and challenges faced by health economics research in China, emphasizing that research in health economics should conform to China's national conditions and should continue to make efforts in interdisciplinary research and data resource mining.

During the keynote speech session, Professor Zhao Yaohui from the National Development Research Institute at Peking University gave the first presentation titled The Elderly in the Pandemic. Professor Zhao analyzed the latest survey results from the CHARLS data concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. Her main conclusions included: the majority of the middle-aged and elderly population in China have been infected with COVID-19; vaccines are effective in reducing severe cases and deaths; the proportion of vaccinations among vulnerable groups has increased after the relaxation of pandemic control measures; and attitudes towards the efficacy of vaccines greatly influence vaccination rates. Professor Zhao also noted that preventive measures like home isolation have a significant impact on the health of the middle-aged and the elderly.

Professor Zhu Hengpeng, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote speech online on The Impact of Drug Distribution Regulation on Pharmaceutical Companies' Business Behavior. Professor Zhu focused on the policy effects of the Two-Invoice System. By constructing a strategic model involving pharmaceutical companies, medical institutions, and intermediary service providers, he analyzed how government regulations affect pharmaceutical companies' drug sales decisions, and compared the differences in corporate behavior and social welfare under the multi-invoice and two-invoice systems. Additionally, Professor Zhu used financial data from listed pharmaceutical companies and drug procurement data to validate the expectations of the model, assessing the impact of the implementation of the two-invoice system on the pharmaceutical companies' sales expense ratio, other financial indicators, and drug pricing.

The conference established a total of 13 parallel forums, covering topics such as Health Insurance, Medical Resources and Service Provision, Health Impacts and Education, Elderly Care and Long-term Care Insurance, Centralized Drug Procurement and Innovation, Population Migration and Poverty, Climate Environment and Health, Health Labor and Welfare, etc. A total of 52 scholars presented their selected papers, hailing from various prestigious institutions (listed in no particular order): Yale University, Peking University, Fudan University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Nankai University, Beijing Normal University, Central University of Finance and Economics, University of International Business and Economics, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing Technology and Business University, Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai Tech University, Tianjin University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xiamen University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Hunan University, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Shandong University, Qingdao University, Shandong University of Finance and Economics, among others. 

The 7th forum is scheduled to be held in 2024 at the College of Economics and Management of China Agricultural University.
