On March 16th, the patriotic masterpiece drama Zhang Boling was grandly staged at Lecture Hall 201 of the school of Finance. the event witnessed the participation of all members from the College Drama Troupe and the Three Questions on Patriotism Lecture Team. The college counselor and drama troupe instructor, Hao Ren, along with more than 150 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students attended the performance.

The event commenced with, Han Lizhen and Wang Fan, members of the Three Questions on Patriotism Lecture Team, narrating the history of drama development at Nankai University, where numerous renowned figures have emerged. The lecture unfolded with the story of how the previous Principal Zhang Boling introduced Western drama into China a century ago, seamlessly connecting it with the background of the drama Zhang Boling.

This drama centered on the life of Principal Zhang Boling, and used his memories as a guide. It profoundly and clearly narrated significant historical stories and vicissitudes of Nankai University. The drama depicted Zhang Boling’s lifelong dedication to the nation and its people, from giving up pursuits for martial arts to become an education in his youth, through the challenges of running the university, to his resistance against the Japanese invaders and support for the anti-Japanese war.. It fully demonstrated the great spirit of Principal Zhang, who cared about his country, forged ahead, and was willing to dedicate himself, and it embodied the patriotic belief and national commitment passed down through generations of Nankai people.

Yang Muhua, the head of the drama troupe, humorously and vividly narrated the history of drama, its development and evolution in China and at Nankai, and explained the mission of the drama, practicing oratory, improving society. She expressed the commitment of the School of Finance Drama Troupe to uphold and carry forward this century-old tradition, adding luster to the glorious history of the towering Nankai.

It is reported that the drama Zhang Boling premiered on the occasion of the centennial celebration of Nankai University in 2019. After four years of inheritance and refinement, it was selected in 2021 as inaugural series of patriotic quality drama of Nankai University, and so far it has carried out seven special dedicated performances with an audience of more than 2200 both online and offline. This activity is aimed at guiding young students to cultivate a sense of patriotism, shape nobel character, strengthen their ideals and beliefs, and telling the story of Nankai through artistic forms such as drama and lectures. The drama troupe and lecture team currently consist of more than 40 members, with the 2022 undergraduate students becoming the new backbone of this artistic initiative.
