Recently, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Development and Reform Commission officially announced the list of the second round of “Double First-Class” universities and schools. Six disciplines from Nankai University were selected, namely applied economics, world history, mathematics, chemistry, statistics, materials science and engineering. Among them, applied economics was the newly selected discipline in this round.

The construction of world-class universities and first-class disciplines is a major strategic decision made by the Party Central Committee and the State Council.It is a leading and iconic project for the construction of a powerful higher education country in the new era. Also, it is of great significance for improving the comprehensive strength of higher education, supporting the innovation-driven development strategy, and serving the high-quality development of the economy and society. 

Nankai University was shortlisted in the first round of 42 first-class university construction universities, and is one of the 36 Class A universities. During the first round of construction, Nankai University's has achieved remarkable results in the construction of “Double First-Class”, which was highly valued by the Ministry of Education and evaluation experts. The pioneering development of five first-class disciplines including world history, mathematics, chemistry, statistics, materials science and engineering has driven the continuous optimization of the school's discipline structure and the continuous increase in the high-quality rate.

In coordinating the promotion of a new round of “double first-class” construction, Nankai University adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly implements the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech on his inspection of Nankai University, and in accordance with the requirements of documents such as the Overall Plan for Promoting the Construction of World-Class Universities and First-class Disciplines and Several Opinions on Further Promoting the Construction of World-class Universities and First-class Disciplines, centering on the goal of building a Nankai Character, Chinese Characteristic, World-Class University, implement the discipline leadership and convergence strategy, and focus on promoting the top discipline leading plan, the backbone discipline improvement plan, the potential and emerging discipline incentive plan, and the interdisciplinary innovation plan. Take the lead in developing, clustering and intersecting, and driving as a whole”, forming a development trend of first-class disciplines, advantageous disciplines and characteristic disciplines, and traditional disciplines, emerging disciplines, and interdisciplinary disciplines. my country's efforts to build a strong country in higher education.

It is understood that a total of 147 colleges and universities have been constructed in the new round of double first-class list announced this time. Among the construction disciplines, there are 59 basic disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, 180 engineering disciplines, and 92 philosophy and social science disciplines.
