On September 29th, the first lecture of Tutor Appointment-Postgraduate Study and Career Planning in the fall semester of 2022, hosted by the Research and Industry Department of the Party Committee of Nankai University and undertaken by the School of Finance, was successfully held. In this event, School of Finance long-term associate professor, head of the department of Financial Economics and Doctoral Supervisor He Jia are invited as lecturers to focus on postgraduate study planning and career guidance, help postgraduate freshmen to plan their goals, and relieve their anxiety and confusion. Yuan Fang and Jane Ma, the postgraduate counselors of the college, and more than 100 graduate students attended the lecture online and offline. The participants responded enthusiastically and the interaction between teachers and students was good.

He Jia took the common questions of postgraduate freshmen—whether to continue their studies and how to choose employment direction as the starting point, and then explained the solution to the problem, so as to help everyone initially formulate their own postgraduate career planning, which is divided into three steps—clearly Who am I, What do I want, What should I do. In addition, He Jia also emphasized that stress and anxiety should be properly recognized and dealt with, and a good grasp of campus time.

During the interaction between teachers and students, the students raised many highly exploratory questions, including academic research, job hunting and further education. He Jia answered these questions in detail. The discussions between teachers and students gave everyone a new perspectives and solutions to their confusion. At the end of the activity, He Jia suggested that the students should have an open mind and learn to communicate with others and form their own views and opinions no matter what kind of environment they are in.

The Tutor appointment series of activities of the School of Finance will further build a platform for teachers and students to communicate with themes such as Pursuit of Ideals and Beliefs, Academic Integrity Standards and Cultivation of Scientific Research Methods, so as to give full play to the role of tutors as guides in postgraduate education and training.
